Paid positions in my congregational church when i was kid: Minister, Secretary, Sexton (Janitor) Choir Director and Organist…
My .02: I have yet to grasp why a modern church movement that values music so highly doesn’t have more paid leaders directing the music ministries.
BTW, why is it that pastor, for instance, IS who the pastor is, AND what he does. Is it because he gets paid?
Some available and legit modern career paths which started out manned by volunteers: Golfer, Baseball Player, Snowboarder, Surfer, Comedian.. etc. Why not add Worship Leader?
For who? i.e. A fight in a hockey game is good for the crowd, bad for the players, and neither for the puck. It IS all about perspective isn’t it?
Do you think God rates our worship of him? What’s his perspective? I tend to think he’s actually looking, within our worship, for worshipers, not worship itself.
For instance:
Revelation 11:1 “I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there.”
John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
Questions: Are there any specific requirements for the types of tunes submitted? i.e. do they have to be songs we’ve played in our churches? Can they be instrumentals? For that matter do they even have to be worship songs? Inquiring minds want to know…
Well, we did a country version of “Nothing but the blood of Jesus”. We’ve also been playing “Your Touch” ( the one Crispin Schroeder sang) It’s the younger guys taking us there…
Haven’t heard that one yet, but we’ve been doing some country/gospel styled tunes lately. I think with the prevailing spirit that currently weighs down the secular world ( and can get on us if we’re not vigilant) people are digging the joy that’s released through these type of songs.
1st Chronicles 16: 33 Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.
I think your dream speaks of Jesus imminent return. He will listen for the song of the heart. He will soon judge to see if we have removed the varnish of our fallen humanity. He will listen to the heart of each and hear which song it sings. We are/were a piece of wood emblazoned and varnished with the knowledge of good and evil. He longs to hear the song of those who have forsaken the knowledge of evil, for these are the sons of God. All of creation (including the trees) long for it as well.
Seth, holiness is a concept that was awakened in me this past year as never before. I’d be interested to hear what that conference brought to you.
I don’t see a new holiness movement as being like the Wesleys with radical self denial etc. but more of moving into being who Jesus professes us to be. I think it’s grasping the realization that I am not merely a sinner barely saved by grace ( think eeyore) but instead a co-heir with Christ, seated in heavenly places, declared righteous, destined for glory and being made holy, a slave to righteousness!
That’s VERY good stuff, and a far cry from the struggle of the romans 7 jews ( who Paul was trying to evangelize ) yet, much of the church still declares this as being the normal Christian life! Paul’s “I don’t do what I want to do” etc is NOT a statement about his, or our new life! I just about want to puke when I hear this underlying message surviving in church these days. I honestly think it’s a successful lie of the enemy- who is trying to limit our perception of our full inheritance in Christ.
The new testament spirit filled Christian life is NOT one of struggling against sin. By the gift of the Spirit, our new man is now grounded in holiness and righteousness and being made into the image of Christ, who is holy. Wahoo!
