December 8th, 2009 at 6:38 pmI don’t think that’s terrible Deb! You have to be who you are. If I hear a song on Christian radio or youtube that I like, then I look at the lyrics and find the chords or try to work them out. The latest was “Grace like rain”, which people really love at our church. I don’t really use non-worship “radio” songs in worship, but I’m not against it. I have a friend that came to follow Jesus through a Hallmark Commercial. Go God. What about others???

Running To Your Love
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:51 amThanks Suzanne. Hmm..do you mean record it with a female lead vocal? Cool idea. It would be a privilege with the pipes that God blessed you with for you to sing it! Maybe, try it at your homegroup and tell me if/how it works out. You might want to key it down a half a step to “C” if you try this, which works really well with other songs in C, but allows you to keep the capo on the 5th fret and play the songs in G. Know what I mean? The capo cords I’ve listed will remain the same keyed down a half a step. Great meeting you in NC, and that’s a cool song you have. Can’t wait to hear it!
Helping People engage
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:41 amHey all. Great approaches and good point about keeping eyes open. Here is something else that we’ve added:
Giving a brief explanation of “who you are” and what you are about to do is always helpful for newcomers. Also, we intentionally invite people to sing to God, and do whatever is comfortable for them ie. sit, stand, whatever.
Ride to Ridgecrest
September 22nd, 2009 at 9:31 amBeth, thanks so much for being really great at the airport! (I missed my flight to Boston), but you were such an encouragement to me! Dudette, Ure the bomb, and thanks again for modeling what a real Christian looks like!
What season are we in?
September 22nd, 2009 at 9:27 amHmm..interesting Debbie! I am planning to attend a “pursuit of holiness” conference on Cape Cod on Oct 30th. Weird! Generally, I like the idea of buying a coke, and praying for people, but I also want to be open to what the Lord is saying to the larger body of Christ. My wife recently quoted Joyce Myer, “God doesn’t do stuff for us, He does stuff in us so that He can use us for the kingdom to go forward” I wonder if God is birthing something new? Great to see you in NC!
The Church's Sound System
September 21st, 2009 at 12:21 pmPeterson,
Very well written. Somehow there has got to be an appropriate balance. Head for the middle ground, and if your pastor says, “Quieter please” than you can always turn it down with an apology.
Sunday worship sets
September 1st, 2009 at 8:45 pmI just listened to the Poured Out VM cd, and I have to say, Orza’s song on that record has a little extra somethin’, somethin’. Not bad for a guy from NYI. I just really love the chorus: “It’s YOU I want to…I want to live for always..” I completely agree with the sentiment, and U2 and Kings of Leon will always be great! I think I’m going to give his song a try.
Keeping It Fresh
August 14th, 2009 at 10:37 pmSpring,
I was sitting in my living room and came across this free Live Concert deal on TV one evening.
Up popped a band called the Ting Tings.
It was way past a “great show”. It was one of those moments where I got to see
how others articulate music! I am always amazed at how sometimes a “track”
can be played right on the click, but it can sound sterile or mundane, compared to something that
is played with feeling. Watching people that “feel” what they are playing really gave me
some new ideas. Great
Thread!
