We’re starting to have a communion service once a month. Since we’re still really new, we’re trying lotsa different formats and sequences.
We want to play some music to prepare hearts and during time when people come to the table for “self serve” bread and wine.
The question is: when you guys do this, when do the musicians partake?

We simply tell the peeps to sit down, welcome the person who is sharing communion, and play a chord progression througout. We find that with the amount of kids in the place, and the echo-ey nature of the room we are in, the music serves as a glue to keep people locked into what is going on. We also do this through our “listening time” and any sharing of prophetic things at the end of the set. The minute the music stops the volume of the room elevates, so we keep playing in the backround until we dismiss kids and go to coffee break.

Hey Debbie! Looking forward to seeing all you guys at the conference…
We do the same as the “other” Vineyard’s as in we have Communion before the service. Then we have a team serve Communion during the service to the tech crew in the booth. Before Communion we have someone come up and share a quick tidbit on what Communion’s all about with directions to flow of traffic. The worship team plays softly in the background during this time and has a particular song to engage the body…

hi eric!
we have the same setup. we take communion afterwards…well, we have two services so we take it in between services. but i’ve been to other vineyards that take it before service, when the team is praying together.

We start with an instrumental lead-in to the song chosen by our Pastor, then softly start singing it until everyone is finished partaking. Then we might sing it again or transition into ministry time music.
