This version of Away In A Manger has a different melody and can be a
nice change from the more traditional version.
This particular arrangement uses quartal harmony. Quartal harmony uses
stacked 4th intervals. It provides an ambiguous chord that is a great
substitute for more traditional chords. It can be substituted for the
suspended 2nd or 4th. It can be used for the minor 7 or even a major
chord. In this arrangement I have indicated the stacked 4th chord as
(4). An example is found in measure 9 where you will see two stacked
4th chords Eb(4) and E(4).
These are also great chords to use for transitions.
