#FridayFeature- Zachri Keck
Welcome to Feature Friday! This is the section of our new site where we get to gather around, learn from one another, create together and get to know each other. For the next couple of months, we will be introducing you to a different person in our region who is involved in making worship happen.
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Zachri, and I was pretty much born into the Vineyard. I can find humor in almost anything, I love putting my heart into music, and I still haven't found a keychain with my name on it.
What church do you serve at?
The Salt Farm, in Northfield, New Hampshire.
In what way do you serve the worship team?
I lead, co-lead, backup, and play guitar. I also play the ukulele.
Who is a hero in your life? Why?
I'd say my parents are my heroes, but not because of all the stories other people tell me about them. It's because they try their best to honor God, seek justice, and live generously.
How did you first meet God?
Asking how I met God is like asking how I met my mother- God was always in the house, at the table, at my bedside, in stories, and talked about like a member of the family who loved and took care of us. However, after a near-death-experience, my prayers changed. I went through a season of only praying when I was worried/afraid, to a time last year where I went outside on a clear, starry night, and was overcome with admiration for God.
Do you write songs?
Yes. I'm strongly influenced by my mom, who I grew up listening to and singing with. I love many styles of music (from R&B to Jack Johnson) so I have a lot of influencers. I can't forget U2 who have been playing in the background of my entire life, and I identify with Bono's line, "Turn each song into a prayer".
What is a worship song that your church is engaging with the most?
A worship song that my church has been engaging with the most is "Fall Afresh" by Jeremy Riddle.
What is something that you like to do outside of your Church?
Outside of church, I love ice hockey/skating, playing with my dogs, baking, hiking, performing at local venues, traveling, holding babies, and being with my family and friends.
What aspect of worship ministry gives your the most joy?
I find the most joy in gathering together with people of similar gifts and reaching the point where you forget about yourself, and get lost in worshiping God. It puts everything in perspective.
What is the best piece of advice or training event you have ever experienced?
The best piece of advice I have ever received is that: leading worship is nothing but a show if your heart isn't right before God.
